Pirate Coin Necklace & Tahitian Pearl
This coin was currency before your country existed.
Every necklace in this collection holds a genuine hammered silver cob coin commonly known as a "piece of eight" minted in the Spanish colonial empire around the 1650s. These are not replicas. Not reproductions. These are authentic coins that were struck by hand in mints from Potosí to Mexico City, traded across oceans, fought over by pirates, and in many cases lost at the bottom of the sea for centuries before being recovered.
We have been collecting these coins for over twenty years. Each one is different — irregular, weathered, and bearing the marks of the crude dies that struck it nearly four hundred years ago. No two were ever alike. That was true then, and it is what makes them extraordinary now.
Each coin is carefully shaped and drilled in our workshop to serve as a focal pendant, then mounted on premium kangaroo leather with two Tahitian cultured pearls one set just above the coin, the other used as a clasp. The leather is hand-rolled, supple, and strong, knotted in the traditional sailors style.
When you order, we send you photographs of available coins from our private collection so you can choose the one that speaks to you. Together we decide how to shape the coin — or whether to leave it exactly as it is the length of the necklace, and the color of your Tahitian pearls. This is a fully bespoke piece, built around a coin that has already lived several lifetimes.
The kind of necklace people ask about. And remember.
